PREP INSTRUCTION CLARIFICATIONS FOR CERTAIN ABDOMINAL AND PELVIC ULTRASOUNDS

Our fasting and liquid intake requirements for certain abdominal and pelvic ultrasounds have been clarified in our prep instructions.

  • Fasting for patients over 36 kg/80 lbs is six hours prior to the exam.
  • Fasting for patients under 36 kg/80 lbs is three hours prior to the exam.
  • Water consumption for patients over 36 kg/80 lbs is one litre.
  • Water consumption for patients under 36 kg/80 lbs is 500 ml.

Patients can find prep instructions at radiology.ca.

You can access prep instructions via physicians.radiology.ca.

IMPORTANCE OF HISTORY ON REQUISITIONS

Including patient history that matches the requested exam is important when completing a requisition. If the history doesn’t match the exam being ordered or if the history is incomplete, bookings may be delayed until we can connect with you to confirm details. Typically, we will fax the requisition back to you for modifications. Please include the relevant history related to the exam for a speedier booking process. If multiple exams are requested, please include history for all exams.

We also require the patient’s provincial health care number be included on the requisition to book the exam.

SECOND PAGE OF REQUISITIONS

When printing a requisition for a patient at your clinic, when possible, please print both the first page and second page. The second page includes important information for the patient to know prior to their exam. You can find our requisitions and prep instructions at physicians.radiology.ca.
