• Thirty-minute general ultrasound exams at our Sunpark and Westbrook clinics.
• Myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) and exercise stress test (EST) at our Mayfair Place clinic

IMPORTANCE OF HISTORY ON REQUISITIONS

Including patient history that matches the requested exam is important when completing a requisition. If the history doesn’t match the exam being ordered or if the history is incomplete, bookings may be delayed until we can connect with you to confirm details. Please include the relevant history related to the exam for a speedier booking process. If multiple exams are requested, please include history for all exams. We also require the patient’s provincial health care number be included on the requisition to book the exam.

REQUESTS FOR REPEAT PROCEDURES

For repeat procedures, we kindly ask that you update the requisition with the most current and accurate information, including the correct dates. Please avoid reusing a previous requisition, as it may be outdated and no longer valid.

ASSESS & TREAT

On the pain management requisition, if you are requesting a Pre-Injection Assessment, please also let us know whether you would like an “Assess and Treat” option. Writing “Assess and Treat” on the requisition allows us to proceed with treatment helping to expedite care for your patient.

NUCLEAR MEDICINE BOOKING

To better serve you and your patients, our nuclear medicine exams will now be booked by the nuclear medicine and cardiovascular team at our Contact Centre. This includes bone scans, thyroid scans, HIDA biliary scans and, myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI). Our patient call-in menu has been updated to reflect this change. As of March 5th our physician line will also be updated. Please use our direct physician line of 403-777-1999 & press 1, then choose option 5 for cardiac, vascular, and nuclear medicine services. If you have any questions about the exams, please contact your Strategic Partnerships Manager or email bd@radiology.ca

CLARIFICATION ON THE ROLE OF MAMMOGRAPHY AND ULTRASOUND

As per guidance from the CPSA, ultrasound is considered a diagnostic tool and is not recommended for breast screening purposes. Whole-breast or handheld ultrasound may be performed as an adjunct to mammography when clinically indicated; however, it is not intended to be a standalone examination or a replacement for mammography.
The current body of evidence continues to support mammography as the gold standard for breast cancer screening and early detection. At this time, breast ultrasound has not been established as an effective primary screening tool for early breast cancer detection, and there is no evidence demonstrating equivalent screening benefit compared with mammography. Please reach out if you would like to discuss specific clinical scenarios or patient considerations.

WHOLE BODY MRI

We currently offer whole body MRI at our Mayfair Place clinic in Calgary. Whole body MRI provides comprehensive, radiation-free imaging from head to mid-thigh. In appropriately selected patients, this examination may identify clinically significant findings across multiple organ systems, including many types of early-stage cancer, multiple sclerosis, brain aneurysms, narrowing of the arteries, ischemic injury, vascular malformations, various metabolic disorders, disc herniations, endometriosis, neurodegenerative disorders and spinal degeneration.

Whole body MRI is not intended to replace established, guideline-supported screening programs, but may serve as an adjunctive tool in specific clinical contexts. All studies are interpreted by subspecialty-trained radiologists with extensive experience in oncologic imaging to ensure detailed and clinically relevant reporting. For further information regarding indications, patient selection, and referral processes, please visit physicians.radiology.ca.
