Body Composition Profile (MRI)

Performed at Mayfair Place. This exam is not performed in our Saskatchewan clinics.

Body composition profiling is a neck-to-knee MRI-based service using scan and evaluation protocols for creating an individualized Body Composition Profile (BCP).  After a report is produced, you receive an easy-to-interpret report containing precise body composition measurements with comparison to normative values.

  • Evaluate the distribution of abdominal fat into visceral fat and subcutaneous fat.
  • Assess the health and volume of specific muscle groups.
  • Encourage your patients by visualizing small and large body composition changes over time that are not outwardly visible.
  • Lifestyle choices and several diseases affect body fat and muscles. These changes are detectable when the precision of the fat and muscle measurements is sufficiently high to assess, for example, longitudinal changes and treatment results.  Body composition offers precise measurements.

This exam is only available in Alberta in a clinic setting at Mayfair Place.  This exam is not covered by Alberta Health Care and does require a requisition. https://physicians.radiology.ca/requisition-forms/

 

 

PREPARING YOUR PATIENT

Appointments are required for all exams except X-ray, which is offered on a walk-in basis. Requisitions are required for every appointment.
