MAYFAIR EVENT

Oct 2, 2024

Alberta – Service Update

N/a

AVAILABILITIES

We currently have relatively immediate booking availabilities for the following exams at these clinic locations.

  • Screening-only mammograms at our Beacon Heights, Crowfoot, Coventry Hills, Castleridge, Mayfair Place, Market Mall, Sunpark and Sunridge clinics.
  • Bone mineral densitometry (BMD) exams at our Aspen Landing, Beacon Heights, Coventry Hills, Castleridge, Market Mall and Sunridge clinics. It is highly recommended that patients return to the clinic at which they had a prior BMD exam if applicable.
  • Bone scan exams (nuclear medicine) at Castleridge, Mayfair Place, Mahogany Village and Sunpark clinics
  • Thirty-minute general ultrasound exams at our Aspen Landing, Cochrane, Mayfair Place and Southcentre clinics.
  • Myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) and exercise stress test (EST) at our Mayfair Place clinic
  • Whole body MRI imaging at our Mayfair Place clinic.

PRAC ID REQUIREMENT

In accordance with CPSA regulations, all requisitions must include complete referrer information: your legible name or verified electronic signature (if using EMR), practice ID, clinic address, phone number, and fax number. We are unable to process requisitions or schedule exams without these details. Additionally, the patient’s health care number and the relevant clinical history for the requested exam must be provided. Incomplete requisitions may result in delays in processing and scheduling the patient’s exam.

CATHETERS AND ULTRASOUNDS

We have updated our instructions for patients with Foley or indwelling catheters undergoing pelvis, abdomen/pelvis, kidney & bladder, or pelvis/KUB ultrasounds. Patients should clamp the catheter 1.5 hours before the appointment and drink 1 litre of water, finishing the water 1 hour prior to the exam. The catheter should remain clamped until the ultrasound is complete. These instructions will be provided to patients during the booking process. Prep instructions can also be found at physicians.radiology.ca.

MECHANICAL BACK PAIN

Following a thorough review of current practices and the latest literature, we have updated our approach to imaging for mechanical back pain that has not responded to conservative treatment. Effective immediately, ultrasound will no longer be used as the first-line diagnostic tool for these cases. Mechanical back pain can stem from a variety of causes, and imaging modalities such as X-ray, MRI, or CT often provide more detailed and accurate information to help pinpoint the underlying issue.

We will continue to provide head and neck ultrasound for evaluation of the thyroid, salivary glands, and lymph nodes, as well as for assessment of lumps and bumps. Additionally, musculoskeletal ultrasound for the back and neck will remain available for indications other than mechanical back pain.

Our team is here to help you select the most appropriate diagnostic options.

Our musculoskeletal radiologists are also available to discuss imaging methods to ensure your patients receive optimal care.
