TEMOROMANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ)
After careful review, we recently updated our diagnostic approach for imaging temporomandibular joint disorders. Due to the deep intra-articular location of the TMJ disc and the adjacent osseous structures, ultrasound is significantly limited in evaluation of TMJ disc morphology, tears and often location of disc displacement. Ultrasound is also unable to assess the osseous components of the joint. Frequently, TMJ ultrasound provides limited diagnostic value.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) remains the gold standard in assessment of TMJ disorders due to its superior soft tissue contrast, definitive assessment of disc morphology and location, as well as superior assessment of articular cartilage and bone marrow.
We will continue to offer ultrasound when there is a specific request for Doppler interrogation to assess for synovitis in the setting of inflammatory arthritis. Please indicate inflammatory arthritis in the clinical history when submitting a requisition for these cases. Please note, the exam will not include any comments on the joint disc.
STAT REQUISITIONS
For requisitions that need to be processed urgently, we must receive the requisition before we can proceed. To ensure timely handling, it is often best to fax the requisition directly to Mayfair, rather than only sending it with your patient. Please use the designated fax numbers listed below.
Fax General Requisition, Pain Management, Cardiac, Vascular to 403-777-3001
Fax MRI & CT to 403-777-3198
IMPORTANCE OF HISTORY ON REQUISITIONS
Including patient history that matches the requested exam is important when completing a requisition. If the history doesn’t match the exam being ordered or if the history is incomplete, bookings may be delayed until we can connect with you to confirm details.
Please include the relevant history related to the exam for a speedier booking process. If multiple exams are requested, please include history for all exams. We also require the patient’s provincial health care number be included on the requisition to book the exam.
REQUESTS FOR REPEAT PROCEDURES
For repeat procedures, we kindly ask that you update the requisition with the most current and accurate information, including the correct dates. Please avoid reusing a previous requisition, as it may be outdated and no longer valid.
PAIN MANAGEMENT ASSESS & TREAT
On the pain management requisition, if you are requesting a Pre-Injection Assessment, please also let us know whether you would like an “Assess and Treat” option. Writing “Assess and Treat” on the requisition allows us to proceed with treatment helping to expedite care for your patient.
NEW MRI & CT SITE
We’re excited to announce the launch of a new subsite of radiology.ca focused on our MRI and CT services. This patient-focused subsite can be accessed through radiology.ca by clicking on MRI, CT, or Whole-Body Imaging, or directly at private.radiology.ca. This new subsite makes it easier for patients to access information specifically about our private-pay imaging services, helping them better understand their options with Mayfair.
We also have a dedicated subsite for medical professionals, available at physicians.radiology.ca. This subsite provides a dedicated hub for requisitions, exam resources, and up-to-date information – delivering a more seamless experience for the medical community.
EMAIL FOR UPDATES
To streamline communication and receive updates more quickly, we encourage using email rather than fax. To start receiving updates by email, please send your name, company, and preferred email address to bd@radiology.ca. If you’re already receiving updates by email, no further action is required. Please note: Patient exam reports cannot be sent via email.
