We are committed to providing you and your patients with the highest quality medical imaging. Below is some information you may find helpful.

Breast Imaging

• Unilateral breast exams are often quicker to book if there’s a unilateral breast concern for your patient. Appointments for bilateral breast exams may take longer.
• Bilateral Breast ultrasound can be requested for women who have known dense breast tissue as determined by a previous mammogram. This exam cannot be requested as a standalone exam for breast cancer screening. ABUS can also be ordered for patients with dense breast tissue, in addition to their mammogram. ABUS is available at Market Mall, Mayfair Place, Southcentre, and The CORE.
• When presented with a requisition for only a breast ultrasound, Mayfair may elect to also perform a mammogram if it is deemed helpful for diagnosis. The mammogram would be completed during the same appointment as the breast ultrasound.
• Please include detailed breast imaging history and whether the exam is urgent on the requisition.

Pain Management

• Fluid analysis or send-to-lab requests must have a completed lab requisition along with the imaging requisition.
• Mayfair does not offer PRP for joints unless the patient has inflammatory arthritis or a risk of inflammatory arthritis. Instead of PRP for joints, we now offer nSTRIDE APS. PRP is for soft tissue injections only. There’s a cost to the patient for both these exams.
• If requesting nerve root blocks or epidurals, the patient must have had an MRI or CT of the spine prior to the exam. This is for patient safety to ensure there is enough epidural fat to safely proceed with the injection.

Ultrasound

• All general ultrasounds, including carotid doppler ultrasound, are available for patients two years old and above.
• Adult ultrasounds for inguinal hernia can not be ordered by primary care, as of April 1, 2017 Abdominal wall ultrasound, including of the inguinal regions, remains available for other indications. More information is available on the AMA’s Billing Corner website.
• Ultrasounds for soft tissue lumps are readily available.
• Wait times for MSK ultrasounds can be longer.

Vascular Ultrasound

• DVT and carotid ultrasounds can be performed at any ultrasound location, but specialized vascular ultrasounds (e.g., arterial Dopplers, ABIs, renal Dopplers, etc.) are only performed at our dedicated Vascular Lab at Sunridge Plaza. Specialized vascular ultrasounds must be requested using the vascular requisition.
• Mayfair does not perform vascular ultrasound screening exams. These exams are only for patients with symptoms.

Other Helpful Information

• X-rays at all applicable locations are a walk-in service; an appointment is not necessary.

Mayfair does not offer thyroid biopsies.

• Echocardiography, exercise stress testing, and MPI are available for patients 18 years old and above. Please ensure your patients know which medications to stop prior to an exercise stress test. Mayfair does not offer Holter monitoring.
• Bone mineral densitometry patients under age 50 will need to be protocoled and meet several criteria. (https://myhealth.alberta.ca/Health/pages/conditions.aspx?hwid=tc4072)

Prerequisites

• When ordering a coronary artery CT fee-for-service exam, patients must undergo an ECG and the necessary laboratory work within 3 months of scheduling this exam.
• CT chest abdominal/pelvic fee-for-service exams may require the patient to complete bloodwork if they are over 50. The bloodwork is to check the integrity and function of their kidneys. Mayfair will coordinate the bloodwork on the patient’s behalf.
• Virtual colonoscopy fee-for-service exams no longer require a recent serum creatinine test.
