We currently have relatively immediate booking availabilities for the following exams at these clinic locations.
• Screening mammograms at our Coventry Hills, Market Mall, Sunpark and Sunridge clinics
• Bone mineral densitometry (BMD) exams at our Coventry Hills and Sunridge clinics. It is highly recommended that patients return to the clinic at which they had a prior BMD exam if applicable.• Bone scan exams (nuclear medicine) at our Castleridge, Mayfair Place, Mahogony Village and Sunpark clinics
• Thyroid scan (nuclear medicine) at our Mayfair Place clinic
• General ultrasound exams at our Aspen Landing, Coventry Hills, Castleridge, Mayfair Place, Sunridge, and Westbrook clinics
• Myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) and exercise stress test (EST) at our Mayfair Place clinic

SYNVISC

Synvisc is temporarily unavailable nationwide. If your patient’s injection is for Synvisc, they may be able to obtain it from a pharmacy or you can consider requesting an alternative (Durolane, Monovisc, Cingal). We will advise when we have Synvisc back in stock via physicians.radiology.ca.

PRE-INJECTION ASSSESSMENT

If you are uncertain as to which pain procedure might be most effective to treat your patient, you can request a pre-injection assessment. On the Mayfair pain management requisition, please check the box that indicates “Pre-Injection Assessment”. Fax or email the requisition to us (information on the top of the requisition) and one of our radiologists will review the patient information and make a recommendation to you for the most appropriate procedure for your patient.

CPSA REQUIREMENTS

As per CPSA regulations, all requisitions must include complete referrer information—specifically the legible full name or verified electronic signature (if using EMR) of authorized requestor plus practice ID. It is also important that you include your clinic address plus phone and fax number. We are unable to process requisitions or schedule exams without this required information. This applies to all requisitions, whether submitted through EMR or as a printed copy. You may be able to add some of this information to your autofill profile in the EMR. This may vary by EMR. To help ensure your patients are seen without delay, please make sure this information is fully completed on every requisition. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us at bd@radiology.ca.

OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re proud to lead the charge in providing breast health services and education. We offer a full range of breast imaging services for your patients’ screening and diagnostic needs.

Mammograms – We provide low dose 3D mammography to all our patients resulting in a greater level of detail and clearer view of the breast tissue with the same small dose of radiation as the standard mammogram. Literature continues to confirm that mammography is the gold standard for breast cancer detection. Breast ultrasound has not been established as a proven tool for detecting early breast cancer, and there is no evidence that it offers the same benefit as mammography. Breast MRI is a very sensitive test and there is a subset of patients who benefit from supplemental studies including MRI. These are usually patients of high risk (>20-25% lifetime).

Breast density & ultrasounds – Dense breasts (Volpara D) benefit from ultrasounds in diagnostic detection. Any additional risk factors such as family history may put a patient in higher risk categories. These patients are strong candidates for ultrasound and yearly screening. Ultrasound benefits for patients with Volpara C density (heterogeneously dense) is less substantiated in current literature but are performed as requested. Additional risk factors for the patient should be considered, and a complete breast assessment may be the best path.

ABUS – We feature ABUS (automated breast ultrasound) at four of our Calgary locations – Market Mall, Mayfair Place, Southcentre and The Core. We will be adding ABUS to our Mahogany Village and Aspen Landing clinics later in November.

Complete breast assessments help ensure your patients receive the most accurate imaging based on their breast density. You may request an assessment for your patient using our general requisition.

Patient comfort – At all our Alberta clinics offering mammograms, patients have the option to assist with compression with our state-of-the-art GE Senographe Pristina mammography system. The system is designed to provide a more comfortable mammogram with patient-assisted compression – a handheld remote that patients can use to adjust the compression of their breast to what’s comfortable for them, under the supervision of a technologist.

STAY CURRENT WITH REQUISITIONS

We routinely update our requisitions to enhance clarity and support more efficient patient care. You can download the updated requisitions for integration into your EMR system. If you require printed copies, please don’t hesitate to contact us. For effective patient service, it is important to ensure you have our most up-to-date requisitions. Visit physicians.radiology.ca for the most current versions of our requisitions.
