X-ray

WALK-IN ONLY

X-ray

Offered in 12 convenient Calgary locations, except for our Cochrane, Southcentre, and Sunpark clinics.

  • X-ray is offered on a walk-in basis. Appointments are not required.  Patients are required to have a requisition.
  • Exam duration: 15 minutes.
  • Technologists will not confirm broken bones or offer any diagnosis from the images even if the patient requests. Once a radiologist interprets the images, the results will be forwarded to the referring physician.
  • If patients have mobility issues requiring a patient lift, we cannot perform those x-rays as we do not have patient lifts in our clinics.
  • Scoliosis follow-up imaging should be done at the clinic and/or hospital location where the last exam was completed to get the most accurate measurements.
  • X-rays are covered by the Alberta and Saskatchewan Health Care Plans except for immigration x-rays and those required for employment purposes.
  • Immigration x-rays can only be requested by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) approved doctors.
    • Immigration x-rays are only performed at our Mayfair Place, South Calgary Health, The CORE, and Westbrook locations.
    • For applicants immigrating from New Zealand and Australia, these x-rays can only be performed at our Mayfair Place location.
    • Patients seeking an immigration x-ray will need to bring their immigration medical examination, unique medical identifier, or unique client identifier numbers to the exam. A passport or other government-issued photo identification, x-ray requisition, and provincial health card (if the patient has one), will need to be presented at the time of the exam.
    • There is a cost for immigration x-ray exams unless the patient has refugee status. Mayfair accepts Visa, MasterCard, debit, or cash.

Lead Shielding – Based on recommendations from regulatory organizations and related scientific research, Mayfair no longer routinely offers gonadal (reproductive organ) or fetal shielding while performing diagnostic imaging.   More information and related references can be found at CHANGES IN LEAD SHIELDING FOR DIAGNOSTIC EXAMS – Mayfair Diagnostics (radiology.ca)

PREPARING YOUR PATIENT

Appointments are required for all exams except X-ray, which is offered on a walk-in basis. Requisitions are required for every appointment.

X-ray

Offered in 12 convenient locations across Calgary and our Regina clinic. X-ray is not offered at our Cochrane, Saskatoon, Southcentre, or Sunpark clinics.

CHANGES IN LEAD SHIELDING FOR DIAGNOSTIC EXAMS

Please note, Mayfair Diagnostics will no longer be routinely offering gonadal (reproductive organ) or fetal shielding while performing diagnostic imaging.

WHY?

  • Based on recommendations from regulatory organizations.
  • Patients receive 20-25 times less radiation today.
  • Scientific research shows negligible benefit.
  • Human bodies are less sensitive to radiation than we believed.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT PATIENT SAFETY

We are dedicated to ensuring our patients have the information they need. Your technologist will be happy to answer your questions. Read this article for more information about this change.
